5 Step Eczema Treatment
Although we did this in the 5 steps, they were chosen for the individual patient. You may not need these 5 or you may need to add or change to suit your needs. If you need help or advice then send me an email (neil@nosterprobiotics.com)

If you read it let me remind you of a few pertinent points.
- Her eczema is stress-induced
- She got her first episode when she fell pregnant
- She had other autoimmune diseases before the eczema
- She was hospitalised several times because of eczema
Her treatment regime was
- Probiotics. Noster ProBiotics to be exact. Not much of a surprise there. These are common to all treatments.
- Exercise. We are complex creatures and we have to fix and balance many parts of ourselves to stay healthy
- Mindfulness. We used this to help cope with stress
- Running or walking
- Diet. We are what we eat.
Probiotics, exercise, running and diet should always be part of your 5 Step Eczema Treatment. Mindfulness was introduced to alleviate the stress. If your trigger is something else then you will need to find a replacement for Mindfulness.
That said Mindfulness is a great skill to learn.
Probiotics
We use our product Noster ProBiotics because it’s a great product, or we wouldn’t promote it.
The probiotic is a live culture probiotic, not free dried as many others are, so it has to be kept in the fridge. It is viable for 5 days out of the fridge.

Exercise
The exercise is because we want to build the body and improve the health of the patient. We were not designed to sit on the sofa and watch TV, nor sit behind a computer screen and play games. The cell phone is not a natural appendage and should be put away.
Exercise alone builds
- your immune system,
- reduces weight,
- lowers your blood pressure,
- releases endorphins that improve your mood and reduce pain
- and a host of other things
We are using it to reduce her stress levels which then reduces the inflammation which reduces eczema.
We kept the exercise to a minimum to ensure compliance. We used something called a Turkish GetUp

Mindfulness
Mindfulness is being in the moment and only worrying about the now. Unfortunately, women tend to worry about everything all the time. Mindfulness shrinks your life down to a small period allowing you to cope with what is happening right now.
This technique is used to learn how to control stress in your life.
One way to learn mindfulness is to learn meditation and yoga.
I’m a great believer in meditation to slow your rushed life and get some perspective. Even if you are not good at meditation, just sitting and trying to clear your mind does wonders for your state of mind and your stress levels.
This is very much a learned condition and whenever stress arises she tends to fall back on her bad habits.
Running
Running also includes walking. She does run on the road during the week because there aren’t too many places you can run on a trail during the week. On a weekend she does the 1000 Hills Park Run, Fig Tree Farm, and a couple of others.
The choice of trail running is to get out of the traffic, breathe cleaner air, come in contact with nature and all its probiotics.
Running for half an hour a week will reduce your heart rate risk by 40%.
It also
- builds your body,
- reduces your weight,
- increases circulation,
- strengthens your heart,
- reduces Blood Pressure
- and much more
She also does a bit of mountain biking for fun. The problem with cycling is you need to do 4 times as much as running to get the same benefit.
Diet
As the saying goes, “We are what we eat”.
We examined her diet and she had to cut out
- sugar, including
- sweets
- sodas such as “Coke” and other sugar-laden fizzy drinks
- “green juice”, a concentrated drink, green in colour and packed with sugar
- carbohydrates in general, including
- pasta
- rice
- processed foods
- artificial sweeteners were totally banned ( see Artificial Sweeteners Effect on the Gut Bacteria )
We changed a few things like yoghurt. She had to stop all sweetened yoghurts and go onto organic, non-sweetened natural yoghurt. We have an article on the yoghurt we use Best Yogurt With Probiotics
We decided she should go onto a Banting type diet, replacing carbohydrates with fats. The aim was to provide nutrients for a healthy body and a healthy microbiome (probiotics).
She also changed her main meal to be in the afternoon rather than at night.
Breakfast was eaten after her morning run for a couple of reasons
- Your body is forced to use the energy it has stored, ie fats, instead of the energy from your breakfast.
- Eating after the exercise leads to smaller meals
Conclusion to Our 5 Step Eczema Treatment
Although she wasn’t able to get into the Mindfulness part of the treatment, the rest has been a resounding success.
Her hair has regrown to the point she needs a haircut.
Curiously, it hasn’t grown consistently over her scalp. It will be interesting to see when she has a haircut to see if there will be universal growth.
She still suffers from stress, but 40 years of conditioning cannot be wiped out in a few months.
I hope to get her back into Mindfulness in the near future. That will go a long way to helping her cope with stress.
As everyone is different, you should tailor your treatment to your identified problems.
A few words of advice.
- Always be brutally honest with yourself. You do yourself no favours by pretending. A big example for women is weight. If you are overweight, then you should have that in your treatment. Eating correctly ensures good health for you and your probiotics.
- If you have never exercised before, do not leave it out of your treatment. A healthy body can only come from exercise and correct eating.
- Start slow and build up. Give yourself easy to attain goals, within a fixed time. There is no motivation as strong as success.
- I didn’t touch on the hygiene hypothesis but it is very important. Excessive cleanliness will destroy the good you are doing. It will kill your microbiome, (probiotics).

The trick is to start.
