IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) Beneficial Probiotics

There is a substantial list of probiotics that are beneficial in the treatment of IBS (irritable Bowel Syndrome).

We will focus on the 10 that are found in Noster ProBiotics

Bacillus coagulans

This probiotic is great for the treatment of diarrhoea caused by antibiotics, viral and traveler’s diarrhoea. Because of this it is perfect to treat irritable bowel syndrome (ibs), inflammatory bowel disease (ibd, crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis) and has proven to be very effective.

Bifidobacterium bifidum

B. bifidum is a common bacteria in the GIT. It is found in mother’s breast milk and is one of the precursor bacteria used by the baby to develop it’s immune system

Bifidobacterium longum

B. longum is found in the GIT and produces lactic acid as a by product of its metabolism. The lactic acid prevents the growth of other “bad” bacteria.

Lactobacillus acidophilus

L. acidophilus is Latin for milk loving. If you are lactose intolerant is i probably due to a lack of these bacteria. These are found naturally in the GIT (gastrointestinal tract). 

Lactobacillus casei

L. casei is another bacteria that produces lactic acid an has been used to create cheeses. Found in the GIT an other parts of the body.

Lactobacillus paracase

L. paracase is also a resident of the GIT. It helps to reduce lactose intolerance as well as having  hypocholesterolemic (reduce cholesterol), antimutagenic (prevent mutations) and anticarcinogenic (anticancer) properties.

Lactobacillus plantarum

L. plantarum is an essential probiotic for our immune system. It is bactericidal, kills other bacteria. It also competes for nutrients with other bacteria and it forms a barrier in the GIT prevent bacteria from leaving the gut and moving to other organs.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus

It has a very strong effect on allergies, such as peanuts. It works well in the prevention and treatment of diarrhoea in adults and children. Thus it’s great for IBS

Saccharomyces boulardii

S. boulardii is different to the other probiotics in that it is a yeast. It is not a natural resident of the GIT but passes through. It does not form colonies like the others, but preforms many beneficial functions on it journey through the GIT.

Streptococcus thermophilus

S. thermophilus is a naturally occurring resident of the colon. I assists in digestion as well as health and immune system benefits.

It is known that it produces antibiotic chemicals.
