This series of articles regarding the Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, and the disease it causes, Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is an attempt by us to reduce the mass hysteria that is raging through the world.
Hopefully, some information will allow you to make a rational, well informed, assessment of the situation. lt is designed to remove the hysteria of the media and social media hype and lies.
Some Basic Medical Knowledge
To understand the problem we need some basic medical knowledge such as what is a virus, how does it infect us and how is cured. I am going to deliberately keep it as simple as possible.
Basically, a virus is a “non-living” collection of proteins and genetic material (DNA or RNA). It is arranged with the protein forming a type of “capsule” around the genetic material protecting it.

How The Virus Invades The Cell
A virus floats around the environment until it comes in contact with a compatible host cell. It then enters the cell in some way, either it injects the genetic material into the cell or the cell ingests, eats, the virus. Either way, the genetic material is now inside the cell.
This material now hijacks the cells manufacturing mechanisms and makes copies of its protein outer coat and the genetic material. The virus then directs the cell to create more of the individual viruses. The cell eventually dies and releases all the viruses to go and infect further cells.
The Problem For Drug Treatment Against A Virus
So as you can see the virus is not living until it enters the cell where it then creates havoc. The use of drugs to destroy the virus is problematic as you can see. Outside of the cell, the virus is not living and drugs cannot do anything to it. Once inside the cell it “comes alive” and drugs are now able to intervene. The problem is the drug has to attack the cell’s mechanisms to stop the creation of the virus.
